100% Electric, No Hybrid or Hydrogen Nonsense

In Climate Change, FREE-MARKET GREEN on March 9, 2010 at 10:00 am

Our condolences to Tesla Motors for their loss of three employees earlier this year – our hearts are with your company for your tragic loss.

The Electric Car is here!  Actually, its been in existence since about 1839.  Yes, 1839. 171 years ago?

Elon Musk, CEO and founder of Tesla Motors, has taken the electric car to a level that no one thought was possible.  The Tesla Roadster goes 0-60 mph in under 4 seconds and has a driving range of 244 miles with just one charge.  Its 100 percent electric, no-hybrid or hydrogen nonsense.

“Sooner or later we’ll run out of other peoples money to spend.”

In Interviews on March 7, 2010 at 12:47 pm

Interview by Tammy Steuver-Alhadef

PUEBLO — Dana Perino hasn’t stopped moving since she left the White House. The former White House press secretary for the Bush administration spends her Tuesdays with Sean Hannity as a news analyst in the studios of Fox News. She also devotes one day a month to a consulting firm providing strategic communications advice to the private sector. The rest of her days are spent delivering speeches, running a mentoring program she organized for young career women, as well as contributing political commentary to The Washington Post, Politico.com and The National Review.

Perino said the next generation of voters will have to tackle the financial situation we’ve created by overspending.

“Sooner or later we’ll run out of other peoples money to spend.” She also said that the threat of terrorism will continue to loom. “The odds are stacked against us,” she said of the threat of another terrorist attack.

Buying Local Means Taking Responsibility

In ECON 101, Farm-To-Fork, Local Food Systems, Sustainable Food Systems on March 2, 2010 at 12:00 pm

Being an avid fan of good food, it has take many years to learn about the food industry, and I learn more every day.

From many sources comes the bashing of the big-box store Wal-Mart, and its industry practices that make it a market-leader (i.e. cutting prices and cutting what is paid to the producer, forcing producers to change and “accelerate” their practices).

What I do know, as that is only does so much good to continually harp on the culprit, what REALLY needs to happen, is consumers have to start learning about their food sources, CARING, and then paying a higher premium for local and sustainably-grown or sustainably-raised food.  That’s it – it is going to have to come from the consumer.  That is how the market, essentially, works.

So in defense of freedom of choice, liberty, and the free-market – let’s win over consumers with good marketing and sustainable practices.  This is a much more positive and productive way of changing a fairly centralized food-supply – and that is what our publication is all about.  Free Markets – New Media, Postive and Sustainable Change, through supporting local communities and building local economies.

How to Organize a Tea-Party

In Tea Party, We the People, liberty on February 26, 2010 at 2:39 am

It has been many moons since sitting down at a tea-party with my little friends (at the time), although it is that type of comity and friendship that brings people together in times like these.

Governor Schwarzenegger’s remarks about the Tea-Parties disappearing are not hard to believe.  The reason is because people think that this is a one-time frustration with the system, and as most humans (and Americans) operate, that frustration soon goes away (or we become complacent).

However, it would be great to prove the people wrong who think that the Tea-Party movement will just “go away.”  The reason is that the movement is not about politics – it is about our RESPONSIBILITY as Americans, as constituents, and as consumers.  It is about EVERYTHING, and because WE THE PEOPLE are the foundation of this great Country, we cannot just “stop” when things look good.  We must continue to be vigilant, and never go back to the complacency that got us here in the first place.

How do you organize a Tea Party?  Well, we keep the grass-roots activism alive, you support grass-roots organizations, and you support local media outlets that are dedicated to the cause.  And, you don’t stop.  Ever.

“Create” Jobs?

In ECON 101, Local Economies, New Media, We the People, liberty on February 25, 2010 at 4:24 am

Q: How do you create jobs?

A: You create demand that will cause a need for industries to hire people!

Q: How do you create demand?

A: You eliminate or lower taxes and red tape.

Q: How do you eliminate or lower taxes and red tape?

A: You eliminate lengthy legislation that causes more bureaucracy and interferes with the marketplace.

So, the answer is, you cannot successfully “create” jobs through legislation.  It won’t work, it is unsustainable, and a futile long-term strategy.

What to do?  Put yourself to work! Start a small business!  Start your own Good American Post territory and fight the red tape with NEW MEDIA.

Effecient Algae, How Green Works in the Marketplace

In FREE-MARKET GREEN on February 24, 2010 at 9:37 pm

FOWLER, COLORADO

An alternative process for treating sewage lagoons,  developed by Bio2 Solutions,  can treat the town’s waste-water using single-cell algae (versus mechanical aeration components).  This process not only reduces costs, but is actually better for the environment. Another component that is created in this process could potentially be used to create a bio-fuel, and another potential revenue-stream for the town.

See the whole story here:  http://www.fowlertribune.com/features/x1025056390/Fowler-sewer-lagoons-subject-of-study

I have been lucky enough to visit with Judd and Linda Sundine of Bio2Solutions, as well as with Wayne Snider, the Town Administrator of Fowler on a trip to Wray, Colorado.  Our adventure to look at Wray’s sewage system was incredibly educational about how we can use natural algae to treat waste-water.  The opportunity for these smaller communities to lower costs while improving their processes, enhancing their environment, and potentially even adding to their revenues, is testament to how sustainable market activities (when demanded by the marketplace) really work!

Safety versus Liberty

In We the People, liberty on February 19, 2010 at 1:36 pm

Hopefully you have heard the debate and banter about government officials at a local, state, and federal level being able to track anyone with a cell phone.

First of all, it is preposterous that in the name of crime, that law enforcement can access to real-time information about where people are located.  YES – I am sure it can benefit investigations, however at the same time, it could easily be used to track and pinpoint protesters and otherwise slightly unruly but LAW-ABIDING citizens.  There is a difference between someone defending our constitutional rights (and privacy) and someone leading a drug-trafficking ring, but with the current laws and administration this fine line could easily be white-washed.

I am 100% for this Country and for having protection from law-enforcement and national defense mechanisms.  I am NOT in favor of swapping my liberty for my security – at the micro-level this would mean that I do not want big-brother to have access to my cell phone records.  Be wary, this kind of behavior is being watched by magistrates and some other very good public officials, but it is going to take an outcry from the American people and the American consumer to make a difference.

Story is HERE.

If You Are Tired of Name-Calling: Hate Mail of the Day

In ECON 101, FREE-MARKET GREEN, Hate-Mail (how could anyone hate liberty?), liberty on February 16, 2010 at 1:31 pm

By Tisha Casida

After reading hate-mail by readers, it is inspiring to read an essay to remind me (and us) about what this is all about.  I found it on Michelle Malkin’s site, HERE, the essay is by Keli Carender, and you can find her blog HERE.  The Tea Party (and liberty movements as such) is about why we are FREE in the first place, and has NOTHING to do with what political party you are affiliated with or what types of services you believe in – it is about THE CONSTITUTION – period.  So stop hating people.

This was part of the email that I received, from the reader of another magazine that I publish, called That’s Natural!, who seems to think that you cannot love the free-market and want to find new energy sources at the same time (that’s too bad since that is the ONLY way it would work).  MY RESPONSES ARE IN BOLD TYPE…..

READER SAID: When I opened your e-newsletter today, I found the ‘Good American Post’, Clifton Casida’s ‘Patriotic’ piece featuring Glen Beck, the GOOOH movement, and your recommended reading list very strangely confusing and in contrast to your otherwise valuable messages. Of course you have the right to voice your opinion on so-called patriotic and governmental subjects, but I find it disturbingly distracting embedded in your publication. Maybe that’s your intent.

TISHA’S RESPONSE: I support ALL small businesses and organizations because I love this Country and I love the free-market, where it takes everyone making purchasing decisions to affect change.

Reader Said: My message to you is that in my opinion, Glenn Beck, Sarah Palin, Fox News, Libertarians, tea party advocates etc. are some of the most ill-advised, self-serving, confused and un-sustainable political elements in our country at the moment and whatever you think of this ‘movement’,  it’s a quite different message to your usual sustainability audience.

TISHA’S RESPONSE: : I very much respect your opinion; on that note of opinion,  I am pro-Constitution, pro-Free-market, and pro-America, so sometimes the people and organizations you have identified are a part of those concepts that I love.

Reader Said: So, you are lucky to have freedom of speech and can publish most anything, but your conflicting message of sustainability and something called ‘Liberty’ defeat one another and has caused me to exercise my right to consider unsubscribing—I’m sorry to say.

TISHA’S RESPONSE: That is the beauty of Freedom of Speech!  Some people really like the thought that Liberty and Sustainability are the same thing!  :-)

Ah, the rancor that keeps a gal going.  To Liberty!

When Green Works

In FREE-MARKET GREEN, Sustainability & Freedom on February 15, 2010 at 1:58 pm

By Tisha Casida

As being a relatively Independent and Conservative thinker, I sometimes get backlash for liking “green” things.

The reason that I do cherish my environment is because I am a product of being exposed to dangerous chemicals that are a standard part of conventional agricultural practices – and in my darkest hour set out to educate people that there are “better” ways to grow food without so many toxins that hurt others.

With that, I believe that the free-market must decide what does or does not happen with the environment, agriculture, recycling, and all things green.  When the market decides that is what they want, then a natural flow of money goes towards such eco-investments.  IT IS NOT MANDATED OR SUBSIDIZED BY GOVERNMENT.  That is the key – let people decide.

At this year’s “Toy Fair” in New York, there are several toys to debut that are eco-friendly (and generally safer for kids).  That works.  Let those consumers decide.  That is the free-market at work, and that is when GREEN WORKS.

Climate Change Debate: Feasible Solutions

In Climate Change, Government Spending & Control, Sustainability & Freedom, liberty on February 12, 2010 at 12:08 am

Since the debate is going nowhere, and it is rather obvious that even science cannot always be trusted nor relied upon for information, how about we just put our money where our mouth is?  The beauty of our system is that is mandates debate – and there is enough of that going on – now we need some real solutions.  So let’s make EVERYBODY HAPPY!

According to the EPA (all opinions on this regulatory system are being sequestered mind you), the “bad” Green House Gases are:

  • Carbon Dioxide (CO2): Carbon dioxide enters the atmosphere through the burning of fossil fuels (oil, natural gas, and coal), solid waste, trees and wood products, and also as a result of other chemical reactions (e.g., manufacture of cement). Carbon dioxide is also removed from the atmosphere (or “sequestered”) when it is absorbed by plants as part of the biological carbon cycle.
  • Methane (CH4): Methane is emitted during the production and transport of coal, natural gas, and oil. Methane emissions also result from livestock and other agricultural practices and by the decay of organic waste in municipal solid waste landfills.
  • Nitrous Oxide (N2O): Nitrous oxide is emitted during agricultural and industrial activities, as well as during combustion of fossil fuels and solid waste.
  • Fluorinated Gases: Hydrofluorocarbons, perfluorocarbons, and sulfur hexafluoride are synthetic, powerful greenhouse gases that are emitted from a variety of industrial processes. Fluorinated gases are sometimes used as substitutes for ozone-depleting substances (i.e., CFCs, HCFCs, and halons). These gases are typically emitted in smaller quantities, but because they are potent greenhouse gases, they are sometimes referred to as High Global Warming Potential gases (“High GWP gases”).

Okay, we can all agree that these substances in large quantities are not good for anyone (like anything else – everything in moderation), how about we spend millions and billions of dollars that are thrown at this topic on: EDUCATION & PREVENTION.  For instance, instead of ANY government-mandated system like Cap & Trade, how about we just plant more trees, work on developing alternative energies, and fund science that will find ways to not use such dangerous gases in the first place.  Wouldn’t those activities stimulate the economy?  Create jobs?  Allow market-forces to work?
Come on people!  We can shoot rockets into the moon to look for water but we can’t find alternative ways to produce energy or do so in a more natural way without such dangerous outputs/gases?  I am not falling for it.  Solve the problem by making the world a better place THROUGH CAPITALIST APPROACHES – make it make money.  Now THAT is sustainable!

Praise the 2nd Amendment & The Right to Carry

In Carry Arms, SECOND AMENDMENT, liberty on February 11, 2010 at 1:29 pm

By Tisha Casida

I was not aware that there were such things as “gun-free” zones on military bases.  I guess I should have known, but I didn’t.

The tragedy at Fort Hood is testament that such a policy does not protect anyone except for the senseless murderers who don’t follow laws in the first place.

In a commentary by Jacob G. Hornberger, the excellent point is raised,

“As libertarians have pointed out, time and time again, would-be murderers don’t give a hoot for gun-control laws. At the risk of belaboring the obvious, if would-be murderers are willing to violate laws against murder, it is certain that they will have no reservations about violating gun-control laws.

Therefore, what gun control accomplishes is a disarming of people who would otherwise have the ability to defend themselves from would-be murderers. The peaceful, law-abiding citizenry is forced into simply dodging bullets from the murderer’s illegally possessed guns until the cops arrive”

The fact that many of our servicemen and women cannot carry arms on a military base is appalling and stupid, in my opinion.  Everyone has a right to protect themselves, as states in the Constitution of the United States of America.

The right to carry arms is important to our liberty, it is actually essential to our liberty.  God Bless the NRA, The Oathkeepers, the Second Amendment Foundation, and every other group that is working hard to protect our Constitution and the Second Amendment.

Health Care = Eat Better to Start With

In Agriculture, Local Economies, Local Food Systems on February 11, 2010 at 1:26 pm

By Tisha Casida

What an ingenious idea!  Instead of getting sick, let’s try and prevent sickness the best we can by eating good food.  That sounds both logical, probable, and just plain smart – as this could actually help our local economies.

Now, this doesn’t have to be a government-run program, this does not have to be mandated or subsidized by the government.  EATING LOCAL FOOD, growing your own food, and cooking your own meals (always better than most fast-foods) can be done BY YOU THE CONSUMER.  It is part of the free-market, and something that is our own choice.

If we make it while we still have time.

Here is a great article on Chef Jamie Oliver and what he is doing to show kids and their families how to eat better.

Action! Elect New People, Eat Local Food, & Buy American

In Local Economies, Local Food Systems, Sustainability & Freedom, Sustainable Food Systems, Tea Party, We the People, farmers markets, liberty on February 10, 2010 at 9:41 pm

By Tisha Casida

Another day, another exhausting showcase on what is wrong with the world and the system.

Some refreshing news, the National Tea Party convention is getting some good press, and some of their topics and speakers thus far have truly spoken for “We the People”.

Again, there is a lot of what is wrong, and I want to focus again on what it RIGHT!  I am 100% confidant that this great Country can pull itself out of economic and social problems using our Liberty & Free Markets.

So, a quick to-do list:

First visit Get Out of Our House – an organization TRULY dedicated to ousting the bad politicians regardless of party-lines.  Let’s start over with TRUE CITIZENS representing us!

Next, find a farmers’ market, CSA-program, or other local food program (find a great database here – Local Harvest) to join and be a part of this upcoming spring/summer/fall.  Local food systems are better for our economy, our environment, and our liberty.

Next, make a pledge to buy AMERICAN, LOCAL, and HAND-MADE whenever and wherever you can.  Find a list of sites and companies in our Blog-Roll.

Lastly, support local media sources that are bi-partisan and seek to appeal to Independent Minds that love Liberty, Free-Markets, and our Great Country.  The Good American Post does just that.

It is simple:
1. Get rid of the bad politics that make up our laws and justice system
2. Eat healthy, local food that supports our producers
3. Purchase consumer-goods from American companies
4. Support local, non-partisan media that is dedicated to our Constitution and Liberty

Together, we make the difference.

Why I Love This Country

In Articles by Staff, first amendment, freedom of speech, liberty on February 9, 2010 at 2:08 pm

Yeah, there are some bad things happening, but we live in the GREATEST COUNTRY IN THE WORLD.

As snowstorms cause chaos, people OPEN UP THEIR HOMES to neighbors and community members.

We watched an NFL team with odds stacked against them (coming from a recovering city) win a Superbowl, with plenty of commercials to remind us that we have FREE SPEECH.

We start buying chocolate, flowers, jewelry for that Valentine in a FREE MARKET where we still have choices about what we can buy, and our shelves are stacked with goods.

And, we are each afforded the opportunity to do whatever we want and believe in, we are able to work hard, we are able to start a business, start a career, start a family, and run for office.

And we fly that beautiful flag, amidst the snow.  We really do live in the greatest country in the world.

Good Food – Mini’s Cupcakes in Salt Lake City, UT

In Food Stories, Local Economies, Local Food Systems, Restaurants on February 9, 2010 at 1:35 pm

Photo Coutesty Paul Alhadef Photography www.alhadefphoto.com

On a recent trip to Salt Lake City, our Good American Post (GAP) staff was able to indulge in the finest cupcake store we had ever encountered.  Mini’s Cupcakes, a locally-owned and eclectically-decorated cupcake store tantalized our sweet-tooth with various concoctions like:

- Breakfast at Tiffany’s -Madagascar Vanilla Bean Cupcake with Tiffany Blue Creme Cheese Frosting topped with edible gems

- The Diva – Dark Belgium Chocolate Cupcake with Pink Creme Cheese Frosting

- Lemon Pie – Lemon Cupcake filled with tart Lemon Curd with Toasted Swiss Meringue Frosting

- Southern Comfort - A traditional southern Red Velvet Cake (not so much red) with Creme Cheese Frosting topped with pecans

Leslie Fiet, the owner and chef-baker, was kind enough to let us take our time ordering and enjoying the cupcakes and various cupcake paraphernalia that is located throughout the shop.

Upon examining her menu, I was pleasantly surprised at the number of ingredients (nearly everything) sourced locally, and as a marketer, very happy to see her marketing these aspects of her business, that are key to enticing consumers like myself and our GAP-Staff.

Mini’s is committed to buy local whenever possible for the products we use in our baking and sandwich making.  As a small business, we appreciate the support of our community and we in turn want to support other locally owned and operated businesses.”

In addition to this, she is committed to high-quality natural ingredients.

“In today’s world of fast and processed food we sometimes forget to ask what is in our food and where it comes from.  We are proud to tell you that our cupcakes are made from scratch using the best ingredients possible.  We are still looking for a few local providers for some items, so if you know of some place that we may be able to support please let us know.”

Cheers to this local business, we can’t wait to get back to Utah!

ECON 101 – Fines by Government with Hands in Industry

In ECON 101, Government Spending & Control on February 8, 2010 at 11:24 pm

(I do realize this is not a GMC vehicle, but I love these cars)

In talking with two of the hosts, Bob & Brandon, of laidoffpodcast.com, Brandon mentioned this story – the fact that the US Government was contemplating levying a fine against Toyota.  Since the U.S. government is the largest stockholder of Toyota’s rival GMC, that would mean that the same people who are potentially levying a fine under the auspices of government, are actually the competition.

Although I am most sure that these people’s hearts are in the right places (those in government), and that they are trying to enforce justice and ensure this kind of event does not happen again, this presents the problems with government intervention in industry.

Government’s heavy hand in any economic activity is questionable, however when the government is a shareholder and a stakeholder, that changes the “playing field” for competitors.  Period.  If our government had some type of fiscal responsibility it may be warranted, but since there is almost no limit to what they are willing and “able” to spend, we are left with a short-term very tough competitor in the competitions of the free-market.

Friends, citizens, patriots, and readers, please forgive me for a very brief dive into the “dark-side”, into some news that is not very positive and actually quite frightening.  This is necessary for us all to understand what we are up against as a free nation, one run by liberty and the Constitution.

There has been quite an upheaval in the news recently with the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN), the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), and certain practices by people in our current administration.  In a two-part series by Anita MonCrief and Carol Greenberg (2010), the true message within the currently-pushed group “Organizing for America”, is one that is not just for America, it is by the Democratic National Committee – it says so right on the homepage.  “Obama for America” actually morphed into Organizing for America, and the ties between and amongst these organizations and the following: Voter Activation Network, America Votes, the SEIU, State Voices, Votebuilder, ACORN, Project Vote, Catalist, and the DNC, if I understand correctly,  can be seen here:

Graphics, Tisha Casida

What to do?  You must know your enemy.  This exposé by MonCrief and Greenberg are a fine example of what we are up against.  These organizations and their agenda have: Data, Resources, Capital, and a Cohesive Strategy.  To fight them we must strategically organize and unite under the banner of our Constitution and Liberty – we must empower citizen leaders who want an America where people work hard and are rewarded for their hard work.  We need political leaders that do not run under the banner of any agenda other than to protect the Constitution, protect liberty, and ensure free markets where we can still hope to prosper and EARN the American Dream.

The Good American Post is a vehicle to do this, do such effectively, and quickly capture the market-share that we need to ensure our freedoms, build our economies, and fight an enemy that is looming – waiting to take this away in the name of “America”.  We know what we are up against, and have the marketing background to combat the database systems that are in already in place.

10th Amendment & Power to the People!

In Articles by Staff, TENTH AMENDMENT, Vox Populi on February 6, 2010 at 12:44 am

By: Joni Cave

In attempting to decide and decipher the fate of my Country, there has been a lot of talk about State sovereignty and states succeeding from the Union in an effort to keep their autonomy.  In these talks there is much discussion and debate about the 10th Amendment, the power that it holds for States, and the fact that it is in our Constitution for a reason.

In two articles from the 10th Amendment Center, Bryce Shonka did a great job of detailing this phenomena, you can find his articles here: http://blog.tenthamendmentcenter.com/2009/09/the-federal-government-is-not-the-united-states/

Now THAT is power to the people!

Tax Breaks for Hiring People?

In Budget, Government Spending & Control, Local Economies, Taxes on February 4, 2010 at 3:18 am

“I don’t know anybody in business who hires an employee because they will get a tax break,” Rep. Mike Thompson, D-Calif., said Wednesday. “They hire employees because they have work to do” (Fox News, 2010).

As a small-business-owner myself, the idea that this is going to somehow “spur economic growth” sounds ludicrous to me.  You create local economic development by building industries and creating consumer demand (as well as confidence).  You have to have people to sell things to before you need more people to work for industries.

I am not an economist, but it sounds like they are treating the symptom versus the actual disease.  Yes, small businesses are in a bad place right now – hiring more people isn’t going to solve that – we need people buying things first!

More interference in business-activities makes no sense, what we need is to have some type of stability in our economy by reducing our ludicrous amount of debt, getting Washington out of our industries, having transparency with financial institutions (all of them), and letting our free-market get back to work without all of these interventions that are not helping, only creating a worse demise for our Country’s future.

But who am I but a small-business-owner?

A Detached Representative, Dear President

In Contents of The Good American Post, New Media, Soldier Stories on February 4, 2010 at 12:35 am

By Tisha Casida

While perusing through various blogs and news-stories, a particular point was brought up on Michelle Malkin’s blog post “The shout-outs Obama forgot”.  One of Malkin’s readers stated:

“No one in the media has brought up the ultimate snub from Pres. Obama during his speech last night. He gave a shout out to Michelle Obama- twice, Joe Biden- once, but to the two officers who brought down the Ft. Hood terrorist and who were sitting right next to the First Lady, he said nothing.

Why?…You would think in one of the most tragic events that happened on our soil since 9/11, Pres. Obama would have addressed them. We all know well Pres. Bush would have.”

This made me really think about it.  The real, true heroes of our system and society are not and HAVE NOT been given any type of support, promotion, etc., at least any real substantial “shout-out” in my opinion.   The men and women who risk their lives, who give their lives, are often forgotten when there would ideally be ample viewership and readership to recognize them.

But I guess that honor, guts, glory, and citizenry does not “sell”.  Well, I actually beg to differ, but it is too bad that people with influence and power, i.e. the President of our Country, are not grateful for the millions of middle-class, hard-working Americans who make real news, in this publisher’s opinion.

For Food & Liberty-Lovers

In Local Food Systems, liberty on January 19, 2010 at 3:41 am

I am an avid Michelle Malkin fan, and her post on Garden-Gate was just phenomenal.  I believe in local food systems, organic agriculture, and being able to produce your own food.  I think that knowing how to grow food is the essence of being an American, and the Victory Gardens literally sprouting up around the nation are fabulous.

I am ready for real food, a real government with real representatives, and the kind of “real” liberty that we had when our Constitution was signed.  REAL – I want real, and that includes a president and an administration that is not full of…. full of lies, deception, and fakery that is disturbing and insulting to this American citizen.

Liberty, Activism, & Leadership

Having the opportunity to currently study leadership, as well as work with activist groups and organizations in the name of “liberty”, it should be noted that we are all fighting for the same thing, and that it is very important and very necessary to work together to achieve a common goal.

The movement of “change” – first initiated by a presidential campaign, and now an inherent part of real changes and additions to our operations as an economy and country – is something that has been created and something that we can deal with – AS CONSUMERS, AS CONSTITUENTS, and as CITIZENS.

WE THE PEOPLE are the future, and it is up to us to work together in the name of LIBERTY and FREE MARKETS.  It does not matter if you are a republican, a democrat, an independent, a libertarian, or a constitutionalist.  This is about the United States of America, and each of us, as citizen leaders (Couto, 1995) play a part.

We must all support each other – organizations like American Liberty Alliance, are doing just that.  Check them out at: http://americanlibertyalliance.com/objective/

Know Your Farmer! Local Food Systems are Most Sustainable

In Agriculture on January 18, 2010 at 1:20 pm

Family in Field at Sunset

We can’t emphasize enough how important it is that we become familiar with our local food systems.  We want to encourage everyone to get to know their land, their farmers and producers, and build sustainable networks for communities’ food supply.

In an effort to aid in the process, we will be collecting data from across the nation in an effort to connect the farmer to the consumer.  There are many tremendous resources out there that are doing this, we want to promote those.  There are also many  places that desperately need additional information and education, we want to get that information out to the public.A great resource for Local Food Information and Resources is: Local Harvest.

If you are a farmer, a producer, or a consumer, and are interested in becoming part of our network and helping us to build this system in our communities, please visit: www.goodamericanpost.com and click on the Farm-to-Fork Button.  Or, email us at: goodamericanpost@gmail.com.

Farm Wars – Natural vs. Genetically Engineered Crops

In Agriculture on January 18, 2010 at 1:08 pm

By: Tisha Casida

In a story posted on Farm Wars, it appears that a case will be take all the way to the Supreme Court, to determine the safety of Genetically Engineered (GE) crops.  The GE crops’ parent, Monsanto, has been under fire from the Center for Food Safety (CFS).

You can see the story posted here:  http://farmwars.info/?p=2258

There has been much debate about the safety of GE crops, especially the impacts on natural ecological and biological cycles.  There is research abound on the topic, a quick search on Google Scholar will bring up some of the debate. A good place to start for some data and research on the safety of genetically engineered foods can be found in Food Toxicology (Engeseth, 2001)

Education and Common Sense?

In TARP, education on January 17, 2010 at 9:31 pm

By: Tisha Casida

In an article published at the Cato Institute, we have yet another example of backwards politicking versus intelligent and progressive actions that have positive benefits to society.  http://www.cato-at-liberty.org/2010/01/13/head-starts-impact-evanescent-hhs-study/

Government-programs for education have come up short, again, and instead of looking at the actual problem, more money is thrown at it.  No where in the FREE-MARKET would you see more money thrown at a failing enterprise (oh wait, except for the billions of dollars for TARP -click on this link to catch-up on the bailout hoopla from Michelle Malkin).

This is what is backwards – there are NO INCENTIVES for success and there are NO PUNISHMENTS for failures – even in the education-system.  What can we do to change this?  Start taking more RESPONSIBILITY for educating our kids and our students.  And start doing everything in your power to protect our liberty.  The last people we want educating our kids is Uncle “Sam” and his minions.

In Sickenss & In Health by Taxes

In Health Care, Taxes on January 17, 2010 at 7:12 pm

Unquestionably, there is progress.  The average American now pays out twice as much in taxes as he formerly got in wages.  ~H.L. Mencken

Here at The Good American Post, we believe in less taxes.  Why?  The government is getting quite a bit of money from us taxpayers already, and they have not done a great job of budgeting this.  They haven’t even done a bad job – it is actually criminal what they have done.

The current health care bill raises taxes on people that our current administration promised to protect.  See a great synopsis of the debate going on right now at: Americans for Tax Reform.
